If you are shopping for a jammer to disable the police radar and laser guns so you can avoid speeding tickets, buyer beware.
It is the opinion of Radar Roy, SML and many other reviewers of these products that passive jammer devices advertised on web sites, in magazine or newspaper ads will fail to jam anything!
Passive Devices
Ninety percent of the jammers advertised today are passive jamming devices like Rocky Mountain Radar's top-of-the-line unit pictured to your right.
Passive devices DON'T WORK!
Active Devices
The other ten percent of the jammers you will find are classified as active jammers like the Scorpion pictured here. Active jammers are designed to send out their own signal back to the police enforcement guns, blocking the reception of your vehicle.
Several of these active jammers are very effective in doing their job.
There are two types of active jammers. They are; active radar jammers that jam police radar guns, and active laser jammers that jam police laser guns.
Active Radar Jammers: Currently there are three radar bands; X band, K band and Ka band. A police radar gun manufacture is currently developing a new model, that will have a forth band, Ku.
Most active radar jammers only jam the obsolete X band (used in NJ and Ohio) and K band. These leaves you wide open for the more popular Ka band guns.
A new active radar jammer was recently developed, that does jam X, K and Ka. However, this Active jammer is very bulky and expensive.
The possession, use or sale of a active radar jammer is a federal felony, carrying a fine of $50,000 and up to five years in federal custody.
Active Laser Jammers: The last type of jammer, is active laser. These jammers work by sending out a beam of light in the infrared spectrum to overpower the police laser guns. Several of these jammers are very effective in blocking police laser.
There are currently no federal laws prohibiting the use or sale of active laser jamming devices, however several states have enacted their own legislation banning their use. |
